The House of Serge Lutens in Marrakech
Whenever he can, Serge Lutens left Paris, he seems to hate, to take refuge in Marrakech. He has two houses: one in the palm grove, where he lives, and another in the medina, he renovates. This house, which he did not intend to stay — “we do not live in a notebook”, he says — helps to maintain the legend. Outside of the workmen work, no one has ever been able to penetrate, not even his closest friends. “When completed, I have not decided yet if I will open to the public or if it will be permanently closed”, says the lonely who lost his partner in 1986 and whose son, aged twenty-six, lives in the United States. The end does one day, in fact, this palace? “In Morocco, there is a local proverb which says that a house never ends, if one dies”, says one employee.
